The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Sorrowful Mysteries lead us to contemplate the Passion of Christ, from His agony in the garden to His death on the cross. Through His suffering, we find redemption and learn the depth of God's love.

1

Jesus bore the weight of our sins in the garden. May we unite our sufferings with His.

2

Scripture

Matthew 27:26

Virtue

Purity

Reflection

Through His wounds, we are healed. May we offer our sufferings for the conversion of sinners.

3

The Crowning with Thorns

Soldiers mock Jesus as king, placing a crown of thorns on His head. They strike Him and spit on Him, yet He remains silent in His suffering.

Scripture

Matthew 27:27-31

Virtue

Moral Courage

Reflection

Jesus accepted humiliation for our pride. May we embrace humility and reject worldly glory.

4

The Carrying of the Cross

Jesus carries His cross through the streets of Jerusalem to Calvary. Weak from torture, He falls multiple times but continues His journey of love for our salvation.

Scripture

John 19:17

Virtue

Patience

Reflection

Jesus invites us to take up our cross daily and follow Him with patient endurance.

5

The Crucifixion

Jesus is nailed to the cross and dies for our sins. From the cross, He offers forgiveness, entrusts us to Mary, and surrenders His spirit to the Father.

Scripture

Luke 23:33-46

Virtue

Perseverance

Reflection

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. Jesus is that friend.
